Barnsley manager Keith Hill says Mido could be out for up to 20 weeks after the Egyptian striker suffered a suspected ruptured hamstring in the Reds’s 2-2 draw at Doncaster on Saturday.

Mido was carried off before the match and replaced by Toni Silva who lasted 20 minutes before twisting his knee. They are both doubts for the start of the season as is David Perkins – who had to have stitches in his head after being cut – as well as Scott Golbourne, Luke Steele and Stephen Dawson. Hill says he will have to bring in more players than he originally expected to compensate for the injury crisis.

Hill said: “Mido seems to have ruptured his hamstring. If he has he will be up for at least six weeks, maybe 14, maybe 20. It is big blow.

“Toni Silva twisted his knee and probably won’t make it for the start of the season. Perks has had to have stitches and Scott Golbourne and Stephen Dawson are still injured. We could be going into the season with 13 or 14 senior players.

“It will be very easy for the opposition to work out who will start and who will be on the bench unless we bring in alternative players.”
