Tottenham are considering making a £20M bid for Basle winger Mohamed Salah in January to improve the team’s underperforming attack.

Sporting director Franco Baldini travelled to Switzerland to watch the 21 year-old Egyptian international in action against Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday night and saw him score the winner with three minutes to go.

It was the third game in a row that he netted against the Blues in the past seven months, while he also impressed with a goal to knock Spurs out of the Europa League last season at the Quarter Final stage.

Basle are prepared to sell their prize asset in the next transfer window even though his current deal still has two-and-a-half years left to run but for £20M Basel is ready to make a deal and Spurs believe his extreme pace could make the difference.

The club have struggled offensively since selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in the summer and scored just nine League goals in 12 matches.

Summer signings Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli, who cost £37m between them, have yet to make an impact and coach Andre Villas-Boas has used Aaron Lennon sparingly, although he was sidelined earlier in the campaign with a foot injury.
