Moemen Zakareya’s season is effectively over after he was ruled out of action for six weeks due to injury, the club said on Friday.
The 27-year-old sustained a groin injury during Ahly’s 1-0 victory over Dakhleya in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.
“The player will need six weeks of treatment,” Ahly said in a brief statement on their official website.
Zakareya, who ended a loan spell at Zamalek to join their arch-rivals Ahly from ENPPI on a five-year deal in January, has produced some fine displays since his arrival, scoring six goals in all competitions despite the stuttering form of the Red Devils.
He scored twice against Rwanda’s APR in an African Champions preliminary-round game and was also on target against Assiouty Sport, Ismaily and Nasr in the Premier League.
Zakareya came through the youth ranks of Ahly before playing for El-Intag El-Harby, Masry and ENPPI.
