Mido to be officially unveiled as Ismaily’s new coach on Wednesday

Former Egypt and Tottenham striker Ahmed ‘Mido’ Hossam has agreed to coach Ismaily, succeeding Tarek Yehia whose contract was terminated after a string of poor results.

“Ismaily have reached an agreement with Mido and he will be officially unveiled as the new manager,” the club announced on their Twitter account, with Mido re-tweeting it.

The Dervishes dropped to sixth place on the table with 55 points after conceding two straight defeats to Zamalek 3-0 as well as to Haras El-Hodoud. They were docked six points by FIFA this season following unpaid dues to a former player and agent.

The three-time Egyptian champions have lost any hopes of finishing in the top three this season in order to be eligible for an African competition.

They have their sights on the Egypt Cup where they will face relegated side Ragaa in round 16 on 22 July hoping that Mido will give them a fresh boost.

The former Egyptian and Zamalek striker became an iconic figure in Egyptian football after playing for a host of European clubs including Tottenham, Marseille, AS Roma and Ajax.

He brought his playing career to an end at the age of 30 after a long struggle with injuries and fitness in June 2013.

He became the youngest coach ever in the Egyptian Premier League, taking charge of Zamalek in January 2014 and managing to win the 2014 Egypt Cup title.

However, his first and only adventure as a coach, until now, was terminated in July making way to Hossam Hassan to take over the Whites.

The 32-year will be the third coach for Ismaily this season following Brazilian tactician Ricardo Ferreira who was on the bench at the start of the season before being succeeded by Yehia in February.
