Egypt’s Mohamed Homos hang up his boots

Former Egypt and Ismaily midfielder Mohamed Homos has decided to hang up his boots after failing to return to the Ismailia-based club.

“Homos decided to end his playing career after he featured for Wadi Degla last season,” Ismaily stated on its website Thursday.

The 36-year-old played 16 seasons for Ismaily, making around 800 appearances and scoring 46 goals.

There were negotiations between the coastal club and Homos but they were unable to reach an agreement.

He rose to prominence when he scored for his national team against world champions Italy during the 2009 Confederations Cup against World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The African champions surprisingly recorded a 1-0 win over Italy. It is Egypt’s only victory over Italy in a competitive game.
