Amro Tarek happy with MLS Columbus Crew SC Move

Egyptian defender Amro Tarek said he did not think twice after being offered the chance to move to the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, having joined Columbus Crew SC from Spanish side Real Betis.

The 23-year-old joined Betis last summer from Egyptian Premier League side Gouna but failed to play any game with the La Liga club.

Columbus Crew said on Tuesday that they have signed Tarek on an initial six-month loan deal with an option to extend the loan until December 2016.

“I can see now that the MLS is getting stronger and the League is really going up and it attracts a lot of professional football players in Europe,” he told his new club’s official website.

“So when I had the chance to come to Columbus Crew SC, I didn’t have any doubts about it. I just accepted right away.”

Tarek, who was born in the United States, was the second Egyptian to join a Spanish outfit, following former star Mido’s brief loan stint with Celta Vigo in 2003.

Now, he is the first ever Egyptian player to join the MLS in the USA where the new season is set to start in March.

Earlier in December, Columbrus Crew SC reached the final of the MLS season but they lost the title to rivals Portland Timbers.

“Any player, when you move to a new club, expectations are very high and very big,” added Tarek.

“Really I’m trying to do my best to help the team and to play as many games as possible and [hope] that we are getting good results.”
