Shikabala suspended for his recent celebration with the Ultras

Zamalek’s skipper Mahmoud Abdel-Razek “Shikabala” has been suspended and reported for his recent celebration with the Ultras fan group, club chairman Mortada Mansour announced early Saturday.

The Cairo giants reached their first Champions League semis in 11 years after defeating Nigerian side Enyimba in Cairo Monday. The veteran player was spotted participating in the post-match celebrations of the hardcore fan group.

“Shikabala is suspended and reported to investigation after celebrating with the Ultras after the Enyimba match,” Mansour told Al-Asema TV channel.

“He celebrated and danced with the group that insulted the interior ministry, army, Ahly and its late iconic president Saleh Selim.”

“Dealing with the Ultras is a red line,” he added.

The outspoken lawyer Mansour has been involved in several bust-ups with the Ultras since being re-elected Zamalek chairman in March 2014, insisting on a complete boycott of the die-hard fans.

Earlier in May, Mansour hit Shikabala with a series of sanctions for participating in a farewell party organised by the hardcore Zamalek fan group for the team’s international defender, Omar Gaber, before reversing his decision.

The 29-year-old Shikabala, one of the most popular players in the club’s history, endured a miserable spell with Sporting in 2014 in Portugal where he made only one appearance.

The former international forward rejoined his boyhood club Zamalek last summer before being loaned out to Ismaily until the end of the season.

He returned to Zamalek in the winter transfer window after terminating his loan with Ismaily by mutual consent, contributing to the White Knights’ recent achievement of winning the Egypt Cup.
