Al Ahly Legendary ex-coach Manuel José retires
El Ahly legendary coach Manuel José has announced his retirement from football after 53 years as a professional player and manager.
The 70-year-old enjoyed managerial spells with Sporting Lisbon? Sporting Braga? and the Angola national team? but his best days are those at African giants Al Ahly? where he won more than 20 trophies.

The Portuguese manager depart the game as one of the most successful managers in Egypt and Africa? after winning eight continental titles and six Egyptian Premier League trophies.
Al Ahly Sporting Club’s technical manager Hossam Al-Badri said Sunday evening in a statement to ‘ON Sport’ TV channel? on the occasion of the retirement of former Al Ahly SC’s technical manager Manuel Jose that Jose is the best technical manager in the history of Al Ahly SC.
Al-Badri stressed that Jose achieved the best results for Al Ahly SC in his reign and that he will continue to be Al Ahly SC’s most important and greatest technical manager? pointing out that his achievements made the fans of Al Ahly SC happy.
Furthermore? Al-Badri explained that Jose played a major role in raising the morale of the national team players? thus helping them win titles. Al-Badri said: “In comparison with him? he surpasses me in the number of tournaments won? it does me a great honor to mention my name next to his.”
The current champions of the Egyptian league Al Ahly SC has won last season’s league title? after acquiring 76 points? seven more than second placed Zamalek SC who only managed to get 69 points.
