Alain Giresse ‘one step away’ from signing for Zamalek

Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour announced Monday that he is close to concluding a deal with French tactician Alain Giresse to replace outgoing Zamalek coach Mohamed Helmy in leading the Whites.

“Giresse agreed to coach Zamalek but requested to be paid USD 50,000 as a monthly salary for him and his assistant,” Mansour told a radio programme on Monday.

“We offered the French coach USD 40,000 and will send him an e-mail including our final offer,” Mansour added.

“If Giresse agrees with our final offer, Zamalek representatives will meet him in the United Arab Emirates to conclude the deal.”

Cairo giants Zamalek parted ways with Helmy upon his request last week. They have since been in talks with other foreign tacticians to find a coach who can lead the team in the Egyptian Premier League games, Egypt Cup and CAF Champions League tournaments.

“Portuguese coach Augusto Inacio agreed our USD 40,000 offer and he will coach the team if Giresse refuses our final offer.” The Zamalek chairman said.

Zamalek currently lie third on the Egyptian Premier League table with 40 points, 12 behind leaders Ahly who have played one more match.
