As Ahly close on a customary Egyptian Premier League triumph, coach Hossam El-Badry has fuelled speculation over his future by declining to pledge his future to the Cairo giants.

Egypt and Africa’s most successful side take on minnows Sharqeya on Wednesday when a win would put them just one victory short of a ninth league title in 10 seasons.

Ahly were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Zambia’s Zanaco on Saturday, having lacked spark and creativity against their resolute opponents.

Ahly are expected to ease past Sharqeya, who lie at the bottom of the 18-team table and are six points adrift of safety with six matches remaining.

Should Ahly claim all three points, they will be crowned champions if they beat nearest challengers Maqassa, who are 11 points behind, in their next game.
