SAM Morsy on Target against Charlton

Egyptian International Sam Morsy scored as Wigan trashed Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the sixth fixture of the English Football League One.

Charlton’s 100 per cent record at The Valley this season came to a shuddering end as Wigan Athletic took a fully-deserved three points.

Gavin Massey struck twice for the Latics and Sam Morsy was also on target for the visitors.

It was a hugely disappointing display from the Addicks as they struggled to get any real kind of momentum.

Their best chance came in the first half when Jake Forster-Caskey’s fierce drive beat Jamie Jones but crashed back off the woodwork, Josh Magennis heading the rebound wide.

Charlton’s defence was opened up by the impressive Michael Jacobs’ pass to the overlapping Reece James, who had time to measure a low cross to the near post which Massey tucked away just before the break.

The Addicks lapsed defensively again with 20 minutes to go. Former Addicks loanee Nathan Byrne popped the ball into the path of Massey – who had space to drive a right-footed effort beyond the helpless Ben Amos.

There was time for another goal, which Wigan’s display probably merited. A cross caused consternation in the box and Jay Dasilva’s clearance was a poor one which Morsy punished.
