TUNISIA STILL ON TOP OF AFCON QUALIFYING GROUP J

Tunisia went to the top of their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying group after beating Eswatini 2-0 at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.

In their second Group J game of the qualifying campaign the Tunisians registered their second win in as many matches after previously beating Egypt 1-0 in their opening group game.

Despite playing away from home the Tunisians controlled the flow of play and opened the scoring in the 18th minute courtesy of a deadly finish from Taha Khenissi, 1-0.

Tunisia continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with their second goal in the 37th minute thanks to a clinical strike from Naim Sliti, 2-0.

Eswatini tried to fight back before the break, but entered the half time tunnel trailing by two goals.

The second half saw the home side seeing more of the ball, but their decision making in the final third was poor and consequently chances on goal were at a minimum.

The Tunisians, on the other hand, seemed to take their foot off the pedal and seemed content to defend their lead. They offered very little in terms of attack in the second 45, but managed to hold on for the win.

The result, combined with Egypt’s 6-0 thumping of Niger in Group J’s other match on Saturday, sees Tunisia at the top of Group J with six points from two games.

Egypt are in second place with three points while Eswatini are third with one point and Niger are last, also with a point to their name.
