Bridget Schmidt-Fisher

German athlete (former GDR) is considered the best canoeist in history. She owns 37 medals. Her world championship performances were just as stunning at 27 gold medals. Even when it comes to Olympics, she got 12 medals, 8 of which were gold. She was the winner of the K1 Olympic competition in 1980; then she won it again the following year and a year after that. Then she went on a 3-year hiatus; she has given birth to a child, and then came back and won K1 again but now as a part of the team Germany.

She continued to win gold all over the world, both solo and as a part of the team. Her husband is a professional athlete as well; he is a former world champion, and he even won an Olympic medal in 1988.

The ten-time Olympic medalist won more medals than any other US Olympic athlete. In the Short Course World Championships, Thompson won 5 medals (gold – for 50 and 100-meter butterfly style, setting world and American records respectively; silver – for 100-meter freestyle, setting the American record; bronze – for swimming 400 meters in a mixed style). She broke the world record in the 50-meter butterfly stroke and the record of American athletes in the 100-meter butterfly stroke. She came fourth in the International Championship on the “short water” in the 400-meter freestyle. In 2002, at the Pan Pacific Championships competition, Jennie Thompson won gold in the 50m freestyle swim where she showed the best results in her entire career. In the freestyle and butterfly stroke, Jenny received a bronze medal. For 400 meters free and mixed style, she received 2 silver medals. In the National Summer Competitions P66 (P66 Summer Nationals), Jenny took second place for the hundred-meter butterfly stroke and 50-meter freestyle. And after a two-year break in her sports career, she took 4th place in the 100-meter freestyle.

Vera Chaslavska

An outstanding Czechoslovak gymnast, 7-time Olympic champion, 4-time world champion, multiple champion of Europe and Czechoslovakia. Winner of the largest number of Olympic gold medals in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.

Dara Torres

An outstanding American swimmer, four-time Olympic champion, four-time silver and four-time bronze medalist of the Olympic Games. Only Torres, Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina (9 + 5 + 4), and Japanese gymnast Takashi Ono (5 + 4 + 4) each have 4 complete sets of Olympic medals. In addition, Torres shares seventh place in the total number of Olympic awards (12) with six athletes. She is the only American swimmer who took part in 5 Olympiads and the oldest swimmer in the history of the Olympic Games.
