Salah may be ruled out of action until the end of July due to a shoulder injury.

Egypt U-23 forward Mohamed Salah is doubtful for the team’s clash with Brazil at the London Olympic Games after aggravating a shoulder injury with his Swiss club FC Basel on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old player initially hurt his shoulder in Egypt’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Central Africa on 30 June.

“Salah suffered a swollen shoulder in yesterday’s friendly match,” FC Basel coach Heiko Vogel told Swiss newspaper Basler Zeitung on Wednesday.

“The medical staff of Egypt’s Olympic team wants to see Mohamed and assess his injury, but until now it is believed he will be out of action until the end of July.”

On Monday, Olympic team coach Hany Ramzy named Salah in the final 22-man squad for the tournament that will run from July 26 – a day before the opening ceremonies – until Aug. 11

“We are in contact with Ramzy. It is not easy to find the best solution,” said Basel sporting director George Heitz.

Salah, who joined Basel this year from Egyptian Premier League side Arab Contractors for 1 million Euro, burst onto the scene with some eye-catching displays during Egypt’s U-20 African Nations Cup and World Cup campaigns last year.

He has been a regular starter for Egypt’s senior team since American coach Bob Bradley took over in November last year.

The Egyptian team will travel to France on Thursday to play a couple of warm-up games against Gabon, on the 16th, and Honduras on the 19th, before moving to London on the 20th ahead of their opening game against Brazil on 26 July.

The Pharaohs were paired with Brazil, Belarus and New Zealand in Group C.
