Can Jose Mourinho rescue Tottenham?
As we all now know, Jose Mourinho has replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham head coach. The Portuguese boss has joined the north London club on a contract until 2023.
In yesterday’s article, I talked about Pochettino’s Spurs future being in doubt and Mourinho was the favourite to replace the Argentinian, so maybe it was not a surprise move. However, maybe the time of the move was surprising, as some reports suggested his future would not be decided until after Saturday’s game at West Ham.

There are few bosses of his generation who can compete with the 56-year-old for trophies won. This is an interesting aspect of Mourinho moving to Spurs, as one of the criticisms of Pochettino was that he never won a trophy for all the progress the team made under him.
Tottenham are a football team renowned for playing football. However, they have a reputation for being pushovers, who bottle big games. Their fancy brand of football is great to watch, but it has yielded no silverware in a long time.
Some Tottenham fans have questioned the appointment of the experienced Portuguese boss. However, it is hard to question the appointment of a boss like Mourinho. He will make Spurs harder to beat and they will no longer have a reputation for being pushovers when it matters.
It may not be pretty to watch, but a good example of a problem that Mourinho will sort out is their away form. Spurs have not won away from home in the Premier League in 12 games. That sort of situation would not happen under the Portuguese, like him or loathe him it’s a fact.
Pochettino did a great job at Spurs, but towards the end of tenure in north London, he seemed to lose the players. Mourinho will galvanise the players and Tottenham will be a different team after a few weeks working with the former Chelsea boss.
