Zamalek will be aiming to return to winning ways in the domestic league when they host bottom side Aswan at Cairo stadium on Thursday.

Zamalek endured a three-match winless run in the Egyptian league as they lost to Talae El-Gaish before being held twice to a goalless draw against Smouha and El-Intag El-Harby respectively to fall 12 points behind leaders Ahly.

The White Knights are seventh on the league table with 15 points and have no option to drop more points.

Coach Patrice Carteron announced on Wednesday his 18-man list for Thursday’s clash that saw the absence of winger Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ Abdel-Razek and fullbacks Abdallah Gomaa and Hazem Emam, who are suffering from different injuries.

Defender Mohamed Abdel-Ghani will also not be available due to automatic suspension, while Winger Moustafa Fathi will miss the game after being dropped from the squad for technical reasons.

International winger Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed, who missed Zamalek’s last three league games, is present on the list of Thursday’s game.

On the other hand, Aswan are also hit with a number of problems. The team’s poor results in the domestic league prompted coach Magdi Abdel-Atti to resign from his post last week, but the club’s board renewed confidence in him.

The team’s striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher sustained a serious knee injury that will render him unavailable for months.

Aswan are second from bottom with seven points from 10 games and they will be looking for their second win in the league this season.
