Egypt’s Alexander Jakobsen joins Sarpsborg 08

Egypt-eligible Amir Adel “Alexander Jakobsen” has signed for Norwegian club Sarpsborg 08 on a one-year contract, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

Amir Adel arrived in the club’s training ground in Marbella to join the rest of the squad on the 17th of February.

The Danish-Egyptian joins from Swede side Norrkoping after joining in August of 2019 and a loan spell at Kalmar.

The 25-year-old received a fair amount of praise from Sarpsborg’ sports director:

‘’He has a style of play that is very creative for both himself and his fellow players.

‘’Jakobsen is usable, but will primarily compete for a spot on one of our edges. He has an x-factor over him with pace and technique. The top-level is high and we have to work on delivering it as often as possible. If we get it, we have a player who enriches us and wants to excite the Stadium crowd,’’

Jakobsen is delighted with the move as well:

‘’Michael Stahre was a big reason why I chose Sarpsborg 08. He is a coach who has a plan and is known to help a lot of players up and down. I know Sarpsborg and know they will play good aggressive football. I am happy to have the opportunity and will do everything I can to help Sarpsborg 08.

‘’I’m a player with strengths in the offensive game. I like to challenge and like to have the ball and help my fellow players. The ambition is to help Sarpsborg and play a lot.’’

The midfielder isn’t a new face to the Norwegian league having played for Bodø/Glimt back in 2016, he has already featured for the Egyptian national team despite being born in Denmark. His only international cap was under Argentinian manager Hector Cuper in an international friendly against Togo in March 2017.

Before leaving Norrkoping, Jakobsen made 79 appearances in the Allsvenskan and is a product of PSV Eindhoven’s youth side.
