After being fined by Al Ahly, Hossam Ashour won’t retire!

After being fined for violating the club’s regulations, Ahly’s long-serving former captain Hossam Ashour said on Friday that he won’t retire from playing football as he has two offers from Saudi Arabian and Portuguese clubs that he will consider.

The Cairo giants fined the former skipper on Monday for violating the club’s regulations after he spoke out on social platforms without prior authorization.

The 34-year-old veteran midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season and he has been told that he won’t be offered a new one.

“I decided not to retire from playing football and I will continue in the field,” Ashour said via his Instagram account.

“I have two offers from Portugal and Saudi Arabia and I will determine my situation soon.”

On 20 March, Ahly announced that Swiss coach Rene Weiler does not intend to rely on Ashour, who has won the most titles in the club’s history.

The Cairo giants left Ashour, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, to choose between either leaving Ahly or hanging up his boots, with an option to work at the club in the future after taking managerial courses abroad.

Ashour posted a video on his official Instagram account talking about recent disturbances halting the arrangement of his planned farewell match and expressing his frustration at the delay, comments which prompted the club’s decision to reprimand him.
