There was no rest for the Cairo Red Devils, with Mosimane rolling out the big guns in Mohamed El-Shenawy, Mohamed Magdy, Marwan Mohsen and Ali Maaloul with a treble on the line.

El-Gaish had the ball in the back of the net eight minutes gone through Khaled Sotohy, but luckily for the Red Devils the goal was disallowed for offside.

Mosimane’s side had a big chance to take the lead 16 minutes in from the boot of Magdy, but the effort lacked the necessary power to trouble Mohamed Bassem.

Then a one-two between Hussein El-Shahat and Maaloul released the Tunisian fullback, who from a decent position went over the top.

With no changes as the second half resumed and a passive spell at that, Ahly went ahead midway through the second period after a ball from Mohsen found Mahmoud Kahraba who tucked home.

El-Gaish appealed for a penalty kick in the last ten minutes for a suspected handball against Ayman Ashraf, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) gave a foul for Badr Banoun instead who got upended.

Ahly were pegged back at the death following a header from Nasser Mansy from a cross into the area by Islam Mohareb. Meanwhile, El-Gaish finished with the rest of the match with ten players after Ahmed Alaa received his marching orders for a second bookable offence, as the match went to extra time.

In extra-time, both sides had chances to grab the winner but in the end failed to capitalize as the match went to a penalty shoot-out, where Ahly were able to keep their cool, with Mostafa Gamal netting the winning kick to complete a historic continental treble.
