They are now on the driving seat with 36 points, six points ahead of second-placed Ahly who have three matches on hand.

Moroccan striker Achraf Bencharki converted a penalty in the 22nd while compatriot Hamid Ahadad doubled the lead five minutes before the break.

Zamalek had to finish the game with ten men on the pitch after defender Mohamed Abdel-Ghani received his marching orders in the 52nd minute on a second bookable offense.

Both sides made a slow start of the game as Zamalek were content to control the ball in midfield while the military side tried to pressure them to break their ball possession.

The Whites were awarded a penalty kick in the 21st minute after a VAR check as El-Entag defender Moaz El-Henawi has deflected with his arm from inside the area a fine cross from veteran fullback Mohamed Abdel-Shafy.

Bencharki converted the penalty to grab his sixth goal of the season.

El-Entag striker Mohamed Talaat had the chance to level the score, eight minutes later, but his header after a miss-timed jump from Zamalek keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal was cleared off the line by defender Mahmoud “El Wensh” Hamdi.

Ahadad added the second in the 40th minute after collecting a poor clearance from defender Ali Fathi to score from point-blank giving his side a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half was a tough mission for Zamalek who were forced to play with ten players following the dismissal of Abdel-Ghani who was shown the red card after a tackle on Mohamed Sosta just seven minutes after the interval.

El-Entag El-Harby pressed up the pitch but failed to create any real threat on Zamalek’s keeper.

Their closest chance came in the 60th minute when striker Mohamed Talaat connected with a fine cross from Fathi but he puts it wide.

At the other end, Zamalek were dangerous on the counter as Bencharki and Tunisian striker Seif Jaziri squandered two easy chances to kill the game.
