Cairo’s Air Defence Stadium welcomes the ACL matches

Ahly and Zamalek’s upcoming Champions League last-16 reutrn legs will be held at Cairo’s Air Defence Stadium behind closed doors, both clubs said on their official websites.

The governmental decision comes after the African football governing body ‘CAF’ had ordered both clubs to play their respective fixtures at Cairo Stadium – their official home venue – or else they would be risking disqualification from the competition.

The 75,000-seater Cairo Stadium, however, had been previously rejected by the interior ministry, which is reluctant to stage games for Ahly and Zamalek at the aforementioned venue after their ultras fans were involved in clashes with the police last month.
