Things got a little out of hand after Algeria defeated Egypt in a World Cup qualifier. (June 7, 2009).
Riot police were called in to do some crowd control Sunday night in the Saint-Michel area after a soccer match celebration turned a little ugly.
Hundreds of soccer fans from the city’s Algerian community took the streets after watching their country defeat Egypt in a World Cup qualifier.
At around 6 p.m. police were called in to manage traffic when celebrations spilled onto Jean-Talon street (Montreal).
Some people began throwing bottles at police officers and a portion of Jean-Talon street was closed off to traffic.
Police managed to clear the ruckus without arresting anyone and no one was injured.
