Nelo Vingada has been appointed as Ahli’s new coach, the Egyptian champions announced on their satellite channel on Friday.
The Portuguese tactician penned a two-year contract with Ahli to succeed his compatriot Manuel Jose, who enjoyed a glittering five-and-a-half year spell at the club.
“I hope that Ahli fans stand by me like what they did with Jose,” Vingada said.
Ahli and Ismaili were in the hunt to sign the former Jordan boss but the latter pulled out of the race and opted to open talks with Dutchman Mark Wotte.
The Red Devils will hold a press conference on Saturday to announce the full details of the deal.
It will be the second time for Vingada to manage an Egyptian club.
He had a spell in charge of Ahli’s arch-rivals Zamalek, leading them to their last Egyptian Premier League title in 2004.
The 56-year-old also coached Egypt’s Olympic team but this adventure was not as successful as Zamalek’s.
