Mido has joined Zamalek on a loan deal!

Middlesbrough forward Mido has joined Zamalek on a season-long loan deal, the Egyptian giants have announced.

The 26-year-old, who began his career with the White Knights, will have the option of penning a permanent deal at the end of his loan period, but only if Zamalek meet Boro’s terms.

Gareth Southgate’s side have pocketed £4million for the initial switch with a further £1million to follow if the move is to be extended.

The former Tottenham striker had been expected to leave the Riverside and initially refused to return for pre-season training following their relegation to the Championship.

However, Mido has now secured the move he had been looking for as he hopes to regain his place in the Egypt national squad ahead of next summer’s world cup finals in South Africa.

Zamalek spokesperson Sabri Serag told the club’s official website: “Chairman Mamdouh Abbas exerted lots of efforts to wrap up the deal.

“We paid Middlesbrough £4million to acquire Mido’s services. We can also sign him permanently next summer if we pay £1million to the English side.”

Mido has played for eight different teams in Europe over the last nine years, having taken in spells with Gent, Ajax, Celta Vigo, Marseille, Roma, Spurs, Boro and Wigan.
