Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan revealed he had been approached by Ahli over a loan move from Borussia Dortmund, but turned down the offer.
The 28-year-old, currently on rehab after knee surgery, had to delay his flight back to Germany due to paperwork related to his military status.
Zidan implied that Ahli thought he would be forced to stay at home for a long time and accordingly made an unofficial approach.
“An Ahli official called me and asked if I could move on loan in case I had a problem returning back to Germany,” Zidan said.
“I appreciated the interest, but I ensured him that the problem is minor and that it won’t deny my return.
“I admire Ahli a lot and I consider it one of the best African and Arab teams, but I am not thinking about moving to the Egyptian league in the near future.”
Zidan is not expected to return to action before October, following his cruciate ligament injury in April.
