Ahly have terminated the contract of their Lebanese striker Mohamed Ghaddar on Wednesday after he failed to live up to expectations.
“The technical staff and football committee decided to annul the contract of Ghaddar to sign another foreign striker in January,” read a statement on Ahly’s official website.
“Football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz will hold a meeting with the player on Thursday to inform him of the decision. The club wishes Ghaddar the best of luck.”
The 27-year old joined Ahly on a four-year deal in the close season as the Red Devils sought to reinforce their frontline following the departure of Emad Meteb to Belgian side Standard Liege.
However, Ghaddar failed to establish himself as a first-team starter, making few substitute appearances which did not convince the club that he was good enough to carry on.
Meteb returned to Ahly and should be eligible to play this month but the Cairo giants still target a new striker during the ongoing transfer window.
Ahly’s current squad boasts two foreigners in Algerian playmaker Amir Sayoud and Liberian striker Francis Doe.
