A friendly game will pit Egypt against Tunisia following revolts in both countries
Egypt and Tunisia are set to meet in a friendly game following the uprisings that forced their presidents to resign, an Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board member said on Saturday.
Former Tunisian president Zineal–Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia while Hosni Mubarak had to surrender Egypts presidential seat following incessant demonstrations in the North African countries.
The Tunisians have agreed in principle to play this game, which will be called the revolutionists game, EFA board member Ayman Younes told Al-Ahram newspaper.
We might reach a final agreement over that match within the coming few hours. We want it to be included in FIFAs international calendar and it could be also held annually.
Football activities in Egypt and Tunisia are still suspended due to security concerns.
The Pharaohs, who face South Africa in a crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier next month, last met Tunisia in a friendly at home in 2005.
Tunisia won 2-0, thanks to a brace from striker Haikel Gmamdia. Mido, who remains out of favor with coach Hassan Shehata, netted Egypts sole goal.
