Bafana Bafana players are brimming with confidence ahead of the match against Egypt and Katlego Mphela is no exception.
‘Killer’ says: “We have played bigger opponents before. We played against Spain and we played against Brazil and even though we lost, we did well. We played France in the World Cup and we beat them. Ghana came here and we beat them so I think we have improved. We know how to win games. Actually I don’t see Egypt causing us problems,” he says.
However, the Sundowns striker expects the Egyptians to go on the offensive, but reasons that could be the North Africans’ downfall.
“It is quite obvious they will attack. They have one point and we have four points. They will come here and try to take the game to us, that’s obvious. But they will leave spaces behind them so I expect an open game. We can then take advantage of that we’ve got the advantage because we are playing at home,” Mphela continues.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old says he will back Pitso Mosimane’s decision if the latter throws caution to the wind by employing a three-man attack with Mphela, Somma and Bernard Parker.
“He (Pitso) is showing Egypt that we are not afraid of them. If they come attacking we will attack them as well. If we put three players upfront they won’t be that stupid and try to attack with eight men. They will try to put bodies behind. It is a risk, but as they say the best way of defending is to attack. I think that’s what the coach is trying to do,” Mphela concludes.
