Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, Swiss side Sion and Sudans Al-Merreikh will pay the $796,500 fine to Ahly on 16 April for El-Hadary’s 2008 contract violation
Sudans Al-Merreikh and goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary have reached an agreement with Switzerlands FC Sion to pay the $796,500 fine to Ahly on 16 April to avoid facing further sanctions by world football governing body FIFA.
The hefty fine was imposed on El-Hadary after he violated his contract with Ahly to join Sion in 2008. He also served a four-month ban.
Al-Merreikh and their current keeper El-Hadary will pay $320,000 while the Swiss outfit will pay the rest to Cairo giants Ahly, the Egypt goalie said on his website Wednesday.
The 38-year old keeper moved to Al-Merreikh in the January transfer window after ending a brief and unsuccessful spell at Zamalek.
He made his first official appearance with Al-Merreikh on 7 March in the Sudanese league after ending his suspension.
FIFA threatened to ban him again if he failed to pay the fine to Ahly.
