Al Ahly’s first group match against Moroccan champions Wydad Ac to be held behind closed doors in Cairo Stadium.
Al Ahly’s management revealed on Thursday that they will play their first game in the CAF Champions League group stages against Moroccan side Wydad on 17 July at the 73,000-seat Cairo Stadium.
The Cairo giants have been ordered to play the match behind closed doors after their supporters rioted during the game against Zambian side ZESCO in the last 16 of the championship.
Ahly reached the last eight of Africa’s most prestigious clubs competition after defeating ZESCO United of Zambia 1-0 on aggregate, while the Moroccan side booked their place in the same round after beating Tanzanian team Simba 3-0 in a playoff game.
Moroccans Wydad AC were drawn in Group A alongside Al Ahly, MC Alger and Esperance from Tunisia.
