This game is almost a decider not only to the two teams involved but also to current group leaders Esperance. Currently Esperance lead by 9 points from 5 games, followed by Wydad (6 pts from 4 games) then Al Ahli (5 pts from 4 games). MC Alger are already out with only 2 points from 5 games.
Should Wydad win then it obviously is over. Should Al Ahly win they will be 99% qualified as they host Esperance in the final day while Wydad will have a trip to Alger. A draw however complicates matters further as the last round could -theoritically- have both Al Ahly & Wydad winning and Esperance thus knocked out. easier said than done for Wydad as they are unlikely to win in Alger where neither Esperance nor Al Ahly managed to win either, so this means Al Ahly plays for a win (almost guarantees them a place in the semis) or a draw (leaves them with the tough but not impossible task of beating Esperance in Cairo), while Wydad actually need a win here to finish the group early.
