Al Ahly & Zamalek are ready for Africa

Al Ahly eased into the second round of the CAF Champions League over the weekend, but Zamalek were made to work hard and only advanced on the away goals rule.

The Red Devils beat Ethiopian Coffeee 3-0 to win by the same scoreline on aggregate following a 0-0 draw in Addis Ababa a fortnight ago.
Brazilian striker Fabio Junior and veteran Mohamed Abou-Treika (two) got the goals in front of empty stands in Ahly’s first home competitive fixture since the Port Said massacre.

Zamalek lost 2-1 at Cote d’Ivoire side Africa Sports, but still advance on away goals having won the home leg 1-0.

Soumaila Belem put the Ivorians in charge with a brace and at that stage the Egyptians were heading out of the competition.
But a penalty was handed to Zamalek after Saied Mohamed was adjudged to have been fouled in the area and Amr Zaki stepped up to convert.

Come-back of the round must go to Nigerian side Sunshine Stars, who trailed 4-1 from the home leg against Angolan side Recreativo Libolo. But Stars managed a 3-0 win in Angola to seal a victory on away goals after the teams had been locked at 4-4 on aggregate.

Champions Esperance won 3-1 at home to defeat Gambian side Brikama United 4-2 on aggregate and book their place in the next stage.
Ghana outfit Berekum Chelsea lost 3-0 to Raja Casablanca at the weekend but still advanced by virtue of their 5-0 home win a fortnight ago.

CotonSport of Cameroon are through to the next stage after a 1-0 home win over Nigerian champions Dolphin left the teams at 2-2 on aggregate, but the Cameroonians with an away goal.

The 2009 and 2010 champions TP Mazambe stormed into the next stage with a 6-0 home win over Power Dynamos that handed them a 7-1 success, while Sudanese sides Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal advanced past FC Platinum (5-2) and DFC 8ème Arrondissement (8-1) respectively.
