CAF bans Tunisian Etoile Sahel from African Champions league

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Monday that Etoile Sahel will be disqualified from the ongoing CAF Champions League after their fans invaded the pitch during the the game against Esperance on 18 August.

The fourth matchday of the CAF Champions League Group Stage game between Tunisian sides Etoile Sahel and Esperance was abandoned 30 minutes before the end of the game after fans invaded the pitch.

Esperance scored two goals in the 40th and 59th minute. Angry Etoile Sahel supporters started using fireworks to scare their visitors. In the 71st minute, Etoile du Sahel fans lost hope of a comeback and took over the pitch, forcing the referee to leave.

Etoile Sahel’s result with group’s teams will be terminated and the team disqualified from the championship as punishment.

Esperance are now leading the group with 9 points, two ahead of Nigerian Sunshine Stars, with ASO Chlef in the third place.
