El-Amry Fires Abbas & appoints Galal Ibrahim as Zamalek board chairman
Egyptian Sports Minister El-Amry Farouk on Thursday announced his decision to temporarily appoint Galal Ibrahim as chairman of Cairo’s Zamalek football club in order to supervise the upcoming election of the club’s board.
Ibrahim is slated to take charge of the club’s activities from 28 May until a new board is elected in September.
Farouk announced new club regulations to the media after the Ultras White Knights – hardcore Zamalek fans – stormed a Thursday morning press conference in Cairo stadium.
At a press conference on Wednesday, current Zamalek chairman Mamdouh Abbas challenged Farouk’s decision, asserting that the sports minister “wouldn’t dare appoint an interim board.”
Ahly, Zamalek’s bitter Cairo rival, is expected to soon suffer a similar fate.
