EFA announces new 22-team league season 2013/2014
The Egyptian FA have confirmed that the 2013-2014 Egyptian Premier League season will include 22 clubs, the association said on its website.
A few weeks after announcing that the 2012-2013 season is off for security concerns, the Egyptian football governing body said that the new league system will involve 22 clubs divided into two groups.
“The new season will involve 22 teams divided into two groups,” read a statement on the EFA official website on Sunday.
However, the EFA has yet to declare the season’s start date due to security concerns.
The two previous seasons were cancelled due to security concerns. The first was called-off in the wake of Port Said riots which left more than 70 Ahly fans dead in a game between Ahly and Masry. The second was cancelled following 30 June demonstrations.
Masry will participate in the new season after serving a one-year ban in the wake of the Port Said debacle.
