Newly-appointed Egypt national team coach Shawqi Gharib expressed his gratitude to all Egyptian Football Association members for placing their confidence in him as the Pharaohs’ leader after American coach Bob Bradley’s departure.

“I promise all the Football Association members who gave me their confidence to work hard and build a new team that can allow Egypt to return once again to the days of victory,” Gharib told a television program on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old Gharib has been entrusted to lead the Pharaohs in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“My ambitions are unlimited. I know it’s a huge burden, but I promise to build a new team that will honor Egyptian football,” Gharib said.

Gharib is no stranger to Egypt’s trenches, having assisted Hassan Shehata during a highly-successful period that saw the Pharaohs win three straight African Cup of Nations titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
