According to the Daily Mail, the FC Basel winger’s European representative was present at Anfield on Saturday.
21-year-old Salah has proved an enormous hit since moving to the Swiss Super League in April 2012, providing a number of dazzling performances down the flanks at St. Jakob Park courtesy of his astonishing speed and superb technique.
Such inspirational form has seen Salah – affectionately dubbed in some quarters as ‘the Egyptian Messi’ and reportedly valued at around the £15 million mark – inevitably linked with a switch away from Switzerland, with the Premier League seeming a likely destination.
In particular, Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool have been previously linked with a potential move for Salah, with fierce foes Manchester United and Andre Villas-Boas’ Tottenham also reportedly interested in the Egyptian National Team star.
The news that his representative was spotted at Anfield is likely to boost fans hopes that Liverpool are moving into pole position to sign a player who could provide yet more ammunition for the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez on Merseyside.
Manchester United, who only today were linked with a potentially sensational double-swoop for Salah and teammate Fabian Schar, are certainly a side who appear in desperate need of landing a player of Salah’s undoubted quality.
Following their hugely disappointing defeat at the hands of Newcastle United on Saturday – which followed another home loss to Everton by the same scoreline at Old Trafford last week – David Moyes’ side find themselves 13 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Although there are a number of areas of the current underwhelming Manchester United squad that would appear to need urgent attention in January, an injection of creativity and genuine quality in the midfield and indeed in wide areas looks to be the priority heading into the new year.
