Al Ahly (Egypt) vs Sfaxien (Tunisia) | CAF Super Cup Preview

The one-off match that pits 2013 Orange CAF Champions League winners, Al Ahly (Egypt) against 2013 Orange CAF Confederation Cup winners, CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday, 20 February 2014 at 19h00 local time.

Ahly is the most successful club in the history of the CAF Super Cup with five titles (2002, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013) whilst Sfaxien were runners-up in 2008 and 2009.

A depleted Ahly will be eager to end their recent stumble when they face Sfaxien on Thursday.

Ahly won the African Champions League title in November after beating South Africa’s Orlando. Sfaxien won the Confederation Cup title after beating TP Mazembe of DR Congo.

Ahly are the record holders of the African Super Cup with five titles under their belt. They beat Sfaxien 2-1 in the same competition in 2009.

Club Sfaxien coach is adamant his side would beat ‘struggling’ Ahly in Thursday’s African Super Cup game at Cairo Stadium.

Club Sfaxien’s coach Hamadi Daw voiced confidence ahead of Thursday’s CAF Super Cup tie against Ahly, saying his side will return to Tunisia with the African title.
“We are here to win the Super Cup,” Daw told a news conference in Cairo on Tuesday.

“We will do our best during the game to score an early goal and take an early lead in this difficult game.

“We know that Ahly are struggling in the Egyptian League but we have to be cautious during the game, because Ahly are still a great team despite their poor results.”

Sfaxien are looking to win their first Super Cup as they failed to win the title in their two previous appearances.
