VIDEO: Ahly’s Wael Gomaa to retire at end of season

Legendary defender Wael Gomaa (Age 38) will hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Shortly after lifting the African Super Cup trophy on Thursday, Ahly captain Wael Gomaa has announced that he will retire from football at the end of the season.

“The best moments in my life are when I win titles with Ahly. I decided to retire from football at the end of the season,” the tearful Gomaa said during the post-match press conference.

Wael Gomaa  joined Ahly in 2001, has won 26 titles with the Red Devils including six Champions league trophies and six African Super Cups

He was a key figure in Egypt’s treble of African Nations Cup triumphs in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Gomaa’s contribution has been highly rewarded on the individual level after he was named as Africa’s best defender four times in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
