Preview: Nkana vs Zamalek | CAF Champions League 2014

Zamalek will play Zambia’s Nkana FC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League.

Match info: 22 Mar 2014 – 15:00 (Cairo Local Time)

Saturday’s match comes on the back of Zamalek’s first defeat under rookie coach Mido, who is burdened with rebuilding an underachieving side. They produced a below-par display to slump to a 1-0 defeat by Masry in the Egyptian Premier League.

“My players are ready for the crucial game against Nkana FC,” Mido said in a television interview.

“We know nothing about Nkana FC except what we learned from videos released by the Egyptian ambassador here in Zambia.

“The loss to Masry won’t affect the players during the Champions League game. The players are eager to win the away game to ease our task in the second leg,” he added.

Mido also complained about the state of the pitch in Kitwe but his side can hardly offer excuses to their demanding fans if they slip up in the first leg.

Zamalek have an almost injury-free squad, with pacy winger Hazem Emam likely to be the only absentee after he picked up an injury.
