Ahead of the crucial game against Cameroonian side Cotonsport in the semifinals of the African Confederation Cup, Ahly squad left Egypt on Thursday and travelled to Cameroon to prepare for the away game scheduled for Saturday.
The Red Devils continued their bid to become the first Egyptian side to win the African Confederation Cup after surviving some Tunisian scares last August and qualified for the competition’s semis following a goalless draw at home to Étoile Sahel.
Ahly are the first Egyptian side to book a final four berth at Africa’s secondary club competition since ENPPI qualified for the semis in 2009 before losing to Stade Malien.
The Cairo giants Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido has named a 17-man squad to take part in the game including striker Emad Meteb who was benched during the 5-4 win (penalty kicks) over Zamalek in the Egypt Super Cup last week.
Ahlys squad also witnessed the return of attacking midfielder Walid Soliman who had a superb performance during Zamalek’s game.
Defender Sehrif Abdel-Fadil also has been included in the Red’s squad after returning to full training as he recently recovered from a thigh problems that sidelined him from Zamalek’s showdown.
