Al Ahly vs Assiouti Sport Match Preview

The Red Devils have notably improved lately but the results have not been as convincing as they chase a ninth successive title.

They will be looking for a win against top-flight debutants Assiouti Sport on Monday to make up for a 0-0 draw with bitter rivals Ismaily in an end-to-end clash that saw both sides waste several goal-scoring opportunities.

The draw with Ismaily followed a sudden opening defeat by Ragaa and a 3-0 victory over Ittihad El-Shorta in their first two games.

“It is important to get the three points and enforce our improvement in our play with points and wins,” Ahly’s Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido said on his official website.

“I am satisfied with the quality of play that we have offered in recent games. Ahly should continue to grow in that way.”

Ahly should stroll to a victory over Assiouti Sport, who lie second from bottom in the 20-team table after collecting a solitary point from their opening five matches.

The title holders are 15th with four points but they still have two matches in hand which would take them close to the summit should they bag maximum six points.

“Assiouti seem a very serious and well organized team with much tactical work. I’m sure it will be difficult to win, but our goal is get three points knowing it will cost a great effort,” Garrido added.

“The team knows it’s very important to add points and I’m sure our players will show ambition and quality.”

Ahly will miss Egypt goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy, who was also absent against Ismaily due to injury, and suspended defensive midfielder Hossam Ashour.

Youngsters Ramadan Sobhi and Karim Bambo, who have struggled to play on a regular basis since the arrival of Garrido, were included in the squad.
