Egyptian defender Amro Tarek was unveiled as Real Betis’ new signing on Wednesday after completing his move to the newly-promoted Spanish La Liga side.
The 23-year-old left Egyptian Premier League club Gouna, whom he joined in January 2013 after stints with the second teams of Germany’s Freiburg and Wolfsburg.
Tarek, who was born in the United States, said earlier this week that Gouna had accepted a 300,000 offer from Real Betis to acquire his services.
“I am happy to come to a great and very famous club in Egypt and all over the world. The fans of Real Betis are amazing. Now I have the opportunity to fulfill the dream I’ve had since I was very young: playing in the Spanish League,” Tarek told a news conference.
“I’m very happy with the group that I found on my arrival. Pepe Mel is a very experienced coach. I’m very happy to be in the city, I like Seville.”
Tarek will become only the second Egyptian to feature in La Liga after former striker Mido played for Celta Vigo in a brief loan spell in 2003, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League.
