Zamalek beat El Hodoud 3-1 | Egypt Cup 2015
Egyptian Champions El Zamalek beat Harass El Houdoud 3-1 in the Egyptian Cup 2015.
Mostafa Fathi hit a brace to help Zamalek book a berth in the last eight of Egypt’s Cup after beating Haras El-Hodoud 3-1 in the round of 16 on Saturday.
Fathi, who came off the bench to replace an injured Ayman Hefny on the half-hour mark, opened the scoring in 72 minutes with an unstoppable close-range shot from a tight angle after beating his marker.
The attacking midfielder doubled the Whites’ lead from inside the area a minute later when he latched onto a superb through pass from newly-signed striker Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneim, whose performance in his second competitive game with the Cairo giants was promising.
El-Hodoud pulled one back in 78 minutes when Mahmoud Ramadan converted a penalty kick, before Zamalek midfielder Ibrahim Abdel-Khalek restored the Egyptian champions’ two-goal advantage three minutes from time with a low effort from inside the six-yard box, thanks to another assist from Kahraba.
Zamalek outclassed El-Hodoud throughout the game, though many of their scoring chances were denied by the military side’s goalkeeper Ahmed Saad, who produced one of his finest displays.
El-Hodoud came close to snatching the lead on the hour mark when their striker Ahmed Sabri went one on one with Zamalek goalkeeper Mahmoud Genish, who easily blocked his poor effort.
Cup holders Zamalek will face Ittihad of Alexandria in the competition’s quarterfinals on Tuesday.
