Swansea City linked with Elmohamady January move
Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady is the latest player to be linked to a January move to Swansea City but has his head been turned by the speculation?
The Hull wideman was left out of Steve Bruce’s starting XI at Cardiff City on Tuesday night with the manager claiming his “Head had been turned.”
The Egyptian star’s omission ended a run of 100 straight starts for the Tigers has increased the speculation around him while his no-nonsense manager did little to pour water on the subject by telling the Hull Daily Mail: “Elmohamady has been a great player for me for the last or six years.
“But I feel his head has been turned by all the nonsense of the summer with him going here, there and everywhere.
“I do believe it’s agent talk.
“Even yesterday, there’s been four or five clubs linked with him.”
Today, seasoned Hull City reporter Peter Swan addressed the issue by saying: “It looks like Elmohamady has to convince Steve Bruce his mind is still on the job.
“Bruce’s reasons for dropping Elmohamady were made clear. The City boss could have just said he wanted to give the player a rest or told a white lie over his fitness, but instead he chose to make it public that he felt Elmohamady’s “head had been turned” by the summer’s transfer speculation.
“It wasn’t particularly obvious in his performances, but Bruce is the one that sees the player every day. They’ve worked together for a number of years and maybe it’s been noticeable that Elmohamady has been down or distracted at the training ground. Bruce won’t have done it on a whim.
“Transfer speculation, especially in the modern game, cannot be easy to deal with. Elmohamady is at an age where his next move will be the biggest of his career and, like all of his team-mates, he’ll believe he should still be in the Premier League.”
The Swans have been linked to a 5m move for the 28-year-old by several sources, while Everton, Aston Villa and Leicester are also understood to be interested in the man who has been told he can leave the KC Stadium in January .
