CAF Champions League Group stage

Saturday , 15:30 Cairo Local Time | 9:30 AM ET CANADA-USA

Venue: Levy Mwanawasa Stadium

After a two years absence from the elite Orange CAF Champions League group stage, Egyptian giants Al Ahly make a return to the mini league stage when they visit Zambia’s ZESCO United this Saturday as both sides kick off the final eight group A matches.

Record champions with eight titles in hand, Al Ahly has missed the group stage in the last two editions. After completing a double, winning 2012 and 2013 titles, thus raising their overall CAF Champions League tally to eight, Ahly were demoted to the second tier CAF Confederation Cup in 2014, going all the way to win their first title. And again in 2015 when they exited the semi final.

It won’t be the first time that Ahly takes on ZESCO in a CAF Champions League encounter. Back in 2011 both sides clashed in the eighth finals, with Ahly winning 1-0 on aggregate. After a barren draw in Ndola, veteran midfielder Mohamed Barakat scored the winner in Cairo to give Ahly a narrow qualification.

ZESCO United entertains Al Ahly at the 50000 seated Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola, with the kickoff scheduled at 15:30 local time this Saturday. Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Memosas and Morocco’s Wydad Athletic complete the group and will meet at the same day in Abidjan.
