Egypt U20 crash out of the African Championship  | VIDEO

Egypt have waved the U-20 African Championship goodbye following a 3-1 loss to hosts Zambia in the last group game on Saturday.

After initially taking the lead in the first half through Ahly midfielder Karim “Nedved” Walid in the 36th minute, Zambia replied with three second-half goals through Patson Daka (double) and a Fahion Sakala header on minutes 48, 91, 72 respectively.

The result left Egypt with only two points in third place following two draws with Mali and Guinea.

Zambia finished top of the group with three wins out of three, as Guinea finished runners-up with four points following their 3-2 win over bottom side Mali. Both teams reach the semis and consequently reach the the U-20 World Cup in South Korea next summer.

It is the second consecutive time for the Young Pharaohs to miss out on the World Cup after last reaching the competition in 2013.
