Shikabala’s late goal edges Zamalek past Aswan | VIDEO
A late goal from Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ Abdel-Razek helped Zamalek claim a narrow 1-0 win over bottom side Aswan in an Egyptian League game at Petro Sport stadium on Thursday.
The experienced winger fired a nice shot from inside the area after receiving Mahmoud Hamdy’s pass, giving Zamalek three precious points that would help the White Knights cement their third place in the league table as they are looking to secure an African birth next season.
Zamalek are third in the League table with 58 points, six points ahead of fourth-placed Masry who will face Petrojet on Saturday.
The White Knights made a slow start of the game, suffering against a defensive-minded Aswan who did their best during the 90 minutes to avoid loss as they are battling to escape from the relegation zone.
But a defensive lapse in the last minute allowed unmarked Shikabala claim the winner.
Thursday’s win will give Zamalek’s players a morale boost ahead of their African Champions League clash against Algerian side USMA set to be played in Algeria on Wednesday.
