Egyptian champions Ahly were held to a 2-2 draw by Enppi on Saturday on an evening of celebration as they were awarded the 2017/18 league trophy.
The Red Devils had already secured their 39th league title against Maqassa 2 weeks ago so this night was to enjoy the moment and give to those who had not figured too often in the season a chance to shine.
Back to his best, Saleh Gomaa salvaged a point for Ahly in the 66th minute after Enppi strikers Amr Marei, 47, and Salah Mohsen, 65, had cancelled out Ahmed Hamoudis first half opener.
The first half was dominated by Ahly, whose midfield led by inspirational playmaker Gomaa, controlled and dismantled Enppi who were defending in numbers. The Egyptian champions could have scored many in the first half with Gomaa providing neat passes to Hamoudi, Rami Rabia and Karim Nedved but they failed to properly finish the job.
Gomaa showed off his dribbling skill after evading two defenders to set up Hamoudi inside the area to slot home in the empty goal in the dying seconds of the first half.
The second half was completely a different story with Enppi well on top in the opening stages. They eventually equalized in the 47th minute after Ali Fawzi crossed to Amr Marei to head the goal.
8 minutes later Salah Mohsen found himself unmarked in the six yards to attempt an overhead kick to put his side 2-1 up.
Ahly attacked en masse after the goal and regained their superiority in midfield but their players kept on wasting opportunities.
Man of the match Gomaa turned from provider to scorer as he converted a low cross from Hamoudi to score home the equalizer from inside the area to extend Ahlys 32-match unbeaten run this season.
