Venue: Alexandria Stadium | Egypt
Tunisian giants Esperance will face Jordanian side Al-Faisaly in the Arab Championship final in Alexandria on Sunday, in what promises to be a thrilling climax to the regional competition.
Sunday’s match takes place at Alexandria stadium at 8pm Cairo time, with fans attending.
Esperance booked their place in the Arab Championship final after beating Morocco’s FUS Rabat 2-1 in Alexandria, while Al-Faisaly beat Cairo giants Ahly 2-1 in the other semi-final.
Cairo team Zamalek also took part in the tournament but were ejected from the group stage.
Egypt has been hosting this edition of the championship since 22 July, with games split between Alexandria and Cairo’s El-Salam Stadium.
The tournament was last held in 2013 when Algeria’s USM Alger clinched the title.
Ahly were initially reluctant to join the tournament this year, given their hectic summer schedule, due to participation in the African Champions League. However, they eventually agreed to take part amid reports that they might field a weakened side.
The lucrative financial rewards include a $2.5 million prize for the winner, equaling those offered by CAF for its flagship African Club competition.
